Anglocentric viewpoints...

I saw this story about an Alzheimer's blood test on the BBC yesterday. It claims the research is based at Stanford University in the US.

However, listening to Swedish Radio's English broadcast yesterday I heard that the research was a collaboration between 3 universities- an institute at the University of Göteborg, Malmö and Stanford... 2 Swedish Universities and one US...

Strange how that wasn't mentioned on the BBC!

A media's perspective is really only as wide as its audience's world view.

The BBC's viewers and listeners simply aren't interested in knowing that part (or the majority) of the research was done by Swedish universities. Such facts do not correspond with a world view in which all significant scientific research is conducted in either the US or UK.

However, a limited world view is not peculiar to Britain. In Denmark, despite being a small country with all long history of losing wars, we actually need reminding that there's a whole world outside our borders.
